Week Two

Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2006 by Nina

Whilst sweltering in the London heatwave, we’ve got a hopping agenda this week. Monday after classes the group can opt to visit St. Etheldreda’s Church and the nearby famous old pub, The Old Mitre. Meet in the main lobby at 2 p.m. Bring your Tube pass.

On Tuesday, 4th of July, we will visit Parliament. Dress is business casual. We will leave the main lobby of Regent’s College at 8 a.m. sharp! Grab a muffin or something from the Refectory tonight if you want something for breakfast on the run Tues. morning. After the tour, our group will break up. The Advertising classes will go to the Jewel Tower across the street from the Houses of Parliament. The Flournoy/Pederson/Kirk classes will meet with a member of the House of Commons. That group will visit the Jewel Tower afterwards. Bring your Tube pass.

Wed. evening we’ll meet in the Regent’s Pub around 7 to touch base before our Scotland trip on Thurs. Pack for mild and cold weather.  Plan to dress in layers. Hold your luggage down to a backpack or small carry-on size bag if possible.

Thursday morning we will LEAVE the main lobby of Regent’s at 7 a.m. (So get to the lobby about 10 minutes before 7.) We’ll head to Kings Cross Station on Circle Line, then make our way to the Kings Cross rail station located outside the Tube station. (Follow the signs.) We’ll get to Scotland at 12:30, check into the hostel and meet up again at the Edinburgh Castle for a tour.

Friday morning your Haggis Bus tour departs from the hostel at 8 a.m. Your tour returns to Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon in time for you to catch the train back to London.

Countdown to London

I arrived on Monday. The city has World Cup fever as England is still in the running. Wimbledon is just getting off the ground and will be at full tilt when you arrive. The weather is cool and dry (knock wood) but showers in the forecast for this weekend. (Pack an umbrella.)

Just a few quick notes before you take off for London:
*Bring your passport in your carry-on luggage. If you’re not on the group flight bring your Britrail pass so you can use it to take the Gatwick or Heathrow Express into London.
*On Sunday we’ll have an orientation at 3 p.m. in the lobby of Reid Hall dorm. Immediately following, we will take a tour of London via double-decker bus.

Have a safe trip over.
